What Golf Glove Size Is Best For My Child?

Home » What Golf Glove Size Is Best For My Child?

Golf gloves are very important for young golfers. A golf glove will help to prevent blisters from occurring, as well as allow for a more confident grip on the club. But how do you figure out what size golf glove will fit your child’s hand?

To measure the length of your child’s hand for a new golf glove, you will want to measure from the tip of their middle finger to the first crease in their wrist. Take this measurement and compare it to a golf glove size chart using both the age of your child and hand measurement.

Read on to learn more about selecting the perfect size golf glove for your child.

How to Measure Your Childs Hand

Because so many people – including very young children – enjoy golf, there are also many different sizes of gloves. To find the one that will be best for your junior golfer, you should measure their hand. To do this, you must:

1 – Measure the Correct Hand

Golf gloves are only worn on one hand:

  • if your child is right-handed, the glove will be worn on the left hand
  • if your child is left-handed, the glove will be worn on the right hand

2 – Measure Length

To measure the length of your child’s hand, you will want to measure from the tip of their middle finger to the first crease in their wrist.

Once you have these measurements, you can look at a golf glove sizing chart to give you a general idea of the glove size that will work best for your child. You can use both size of the hand and age of your child to narrow down the best fitting glove.

Golf glove brands can sometimes have different sizing from one another, so be sure to check out the companies sizing chart before purchasing.

If you’re child is in-between sizes, we recommend going up to the larger size.

How Should My Kids Golf Glove Fit?

One of the most important things to look for when trying on golf gloves is the amount of loose material left over when the glove is being worn. The glove has to make good contact with the club as you are taking a swing, otherwise you’ll lose control of the club. If there is a lot of loose material, the glove is too big and will easily slip, potentially ruining your shot.

To fit best, there should be very minimal material (of any kind of fabric) left at the fingertips when the glove is worn. If there is a lot of material left over, the glove is too big and won’t offer a secure grip.

If your child has trouble bending their fingers, the glove is too small, and they won’t have any control over their swing. When you look at a well-fitting golf glove, it will be smooth on both the palm and the back of the hand.

Equally, the glove should not be too tight. Many say it should be like a second skin, so that it moves just like your skin moves, with no snags, tags, or creases.

Is a Cadet Golf Glove for Kids?

Not exactly. When you see the term “Cadet” listed for a golf glove size that just means that the finger length of the glove is shorter, and slightly wider, than your standard golf glove.

If your child has larger palms/hands but short fingers, than you might want to consider investigating the Cadet size option for your junior golfer.

Golf Glove Fabric Types

Golf gloves can be made of leather or they can be synthetic. Leather is a big favorite as it tends to be much more comfortable and, although more expensive, will last longer than anything man-made.

However, synthetic gloves can be much more economical than all-leather gloves, while also providing a strong grip. Even in wet or cold weather, synthetic gloves will give you the same excellent grip, whereas leather gloves may slip.

Synthetic gloves allow the skin to breath more as well, which is a positive during those hot summer days on the course. We recommend looking for gloves that offer ventilation features, mainly slits in the gloves, which help keep hands more comfortable.

Golf Glove Care

After a round on the course, where should your kid put their golf glove? Most likely it will be crammed into the smallest pocket of their bag, but ideally we would like to leave the glove somewhat flat and not crinkled up. This way, the next time they play the glove won’t be stiff and uncomfortable on their hand.

Having the right fitting golf glove is something that can make a massive difference to your child’s game, and if your junior golfer is serious about golf, they are going to want the right equipment.
